Stainless Steel Meshes for Waste Capture: Innovation in France

Waste management in fluvial and marine environments demands solutions that do not exacerbate the problem they intend to solve. Cables Estructurales has executed an innovative project in France, replacing traditional polyamide nets with AISI 316 stainless steel cable mesh for capturing macro-waste, effectively eliminating the release of microplastics into the ecosystem.

The Problem with Polyamide (Nylon) Nets: Although the use of plastic nets is common for capturing waste, they present critical limitations that our engineering solution overcomes:

  • Environmental Impact: Nylon is derived from fossil resources, and its manufacturing involves high energy consumption.
  • Degradation and Pollution: Over time, synthetic nets fragment, releasing microplastics that contaminate the aquatic environment.

How to avoid microplastics in waste traps? The technical solution is to use AISI 316 stainless steel mesh. This material is inert, does not break down into particles, and offers a service life drastically superior to any synthetic fiber.

Technical Advantages of the X-TEND System in 316 Steel: As experts in the design of tie-rod systems and cable mesh, our solution for this project in France stands out for:

  • Mechanical Resistance: Ability to withstand large volumes of waste and the force of currents without deforming.
  • Durability in Corrosive Environments: Marine-grade steel (316) is essential to guarantee the system’s integrity in constant contact with water.
  • Custom Design: Each trap is manufactured according to the specific dimensions and hydraulic requirements of the installation area.

Commitment to Sustainable Engineering: At Cables Estructurales, we maintain a large stock of cables and mesh (X-TEND) that allow for a rapid response to global ecological challenges. Our extensive experience in the construction and industrial sectors allows us to translate the efficiency of steel into environmental conservation.
