Stainless Steel Tie Rods for Pedestrian Bridges: A-38 Highway Project (Spain)
Safety on urban, pedestrian, and bicycle infrastructure demands perimeter protection systems that balance structural lightweight design, resistance to constant traffic-induced vibrations, and a clean visual transparency that blends with the landscape. The core challenge involved adapting the anchoring system to a pre-existing metallic structure with zero margin for error. For all this in Cables Estructurales, we provided a comprehensive, tailor-made cable staying solution by manufacturing 600 stainless steel stays with a Ø8 mm diameter. To guarantee an infallible, millimeter-precise mechanical fixation, our technical team developed custom hardware (specific turnbuckles and clevis pins) that completely eliminates structural slack on the bridge’s metal sheets.
How are steel cables anchored to walkway railings? Securing steel cables to overpass railings is achieved by using custom-designed threaded turnbuckles and stainless steel clevis pins. These specialized components allow for precise, individual adjustment of cable tension, absorbing structural vibrations and ensuring dependable perimeter safety against harsh weather conditions.
Project Impact and Benefits:
- Architectural Integration: The stainless steel finish delivers a clean, cutting-edge aesthetic that integrates seamlessly into modern public works.
- High-Resistance Safety: Certified systems designed to counter material fatigue in high-exposure highway and coastal environments.
- On-Site Efficiency: Direct technical collaboration with on-site crews to map out anchoring solutions, drastically cutting down assembly times and layout errors.
